Ezekiel 25 : 12 – 14 ”
“12 “This is what the Sovereign LORD says: ‘Because Edom took revenge on Judah and became very guilty by doing so,
13 therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says: I will stretch out my hand against Edom and kill both man and beast. I will lay it waste, and from Teman to Dedan they will fall by the sword.
14 I will take vengeance on Edom by the hand of my people Israel, and they will deal with Edom in accordance with my anger and my wrath; they will know my vengeance, declares the Sovereign LORD.’ ”
This is a prophetic word from GOD to the nation of Edom. Biblical history describes a conflict that brewed over generations between two nations : Israel and Edom. There conflict was unusually unique in comparison to all the over conflicts in the history of Israel. Why? Well, studying their connection, the book of Genesis describes their origin from the infamous twins; Jacob in whom the Hebrews derive their lineage and Esau; in whom the Edomites claim ties.
The bible informs us that Jacob and Esau from the womb ; were never equal, read Genesis 25 : 23 – 24. They were 2 nations who were apprehensive toward one another and their engagements always ended in violence. Numbers 20 : 17 – 20, Moses inquires of the Edomite people, permission to pass through Edomite country on their way to Canaan and they are denied passage. However, in Deut 2: 1-8, they are granted access but in the southern part of the country. They were literally born with hatred toward one another and closer examination of their relationship by scholars prove that their conflict was more about resources than religion. They fought over land.
How many friendships, family relationships, church connections are destroyed because of the “issue of land”? The twins relationship in the womb determined the destiny of their descendants outside of the womb : FIGHTERS! Eventuall, fighting for territory, fighting for birth order and fighting for birth rights!
We don’t have to walk outside our home to “look” for an enemy, it is written “Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household.” Matt. 10:34-35 KJV. We have family members that live in spiritual darkness that “fight” those who live in the light of Christ.
Some of us have experienced being “in trouble” with members of our own family for “just existing.” We don’t have to say or do anything and we are ostracized and hated. And we can be hated from a distance, even a country away. We don’t even have to be there in the same space and we are shunned. This is a good example of how a “man’s enemies will be the members of his own family.” What about your immediate, extended and in-law family dynamics?
When you have trouble with your family members it is not a sign that God doesn’t love you, but the opposite. It is a sign that you are a child of God who is being “persecuted for righteousness sake” and the persecutors are the members of your own family. This is the order of things. Those who hate the truth and love lies will naturally hate you if you insist on living in the truth. They will hate you just like they do Christ. Keep telling the truth! Keep living the truth! Keep fighting for the truth – YESHUA! PRAY for your enemies and BLESS them; Matt 5 : 44.
